Salado

Name of three rivers in Argentina. The first, also called Salado del Norte, or Juramento in the north of the country, rises in the Andes and flows southeast to join the Paraná River between the towns of Santa Fé and Rosario, 384 km/239 mi northwest of Buenos Aires. Its shallow, lifting course of 2,030 km/1,261 mi renders commercial navigation impracticable.

The second, in the eastern part of Buenos Aires department, is 640 km/398 mi long and flows into Samborombon Bay; it is used for irrigation.

The third, also called Desaguadero, or Salado del Sud lies in western Argentina; length 1,368 km/850 mi; it rises in the Andes and flows southwards, forming the boundary between the departments of Mendoza and San Luis, before traversing La Pampa department, where it is known as the Chadileo, and further south as the Curaro. It joins the Río Colorado near the town of Pichi Mahuida.
