Salamanca

Province of west-central Spain in Castilla-León autonomous community; area 12,336 sq km/4,763 sq mi; population (1995 est) 365,300. Bordered on the west by Portugal, it is in general a tableland. Products include cereals, olive oil, hemp, and wine, and there are some mineral deposits. The capital is Salamanca.
