Salavat

Town in the Republic of Bashkortostan, Russian Federation, on the Belaya River in the southern Urals 150 km/93 mi south of Ufa; population (1996 est) 157,000. Salavat was founded in 1948 as a major centre of the Volga-Urals oilfields.
