Salcombe

Holiday resort in Devon, England, on the English Channel, 17 km/11 southwest of Dartmouth; population (2001) 1,900. It has a mild climate, and is a yachting centre.

March 9, 1989 Paul Nicholls, out of action since a fall at Worcester in the middle of last month, comes back with a winner as Salcombe Harbour (David Barons) beats Roscoe's Gemma (Nigel Thick/Ron Hyett) in the novices' hurdle at Stratford.
Take the country roads to picturesque Hope Cove and Thurlestone Sands, or the fabulous creek road the other side of Salcombe Harbour to find National Trust-owned Mill Bay.
