Sale, Robert Henry (1782-1845)

British soldier. Heentered the army in 1795. In India, he took part in the storming of Seringapatam in 1799, and of Travancore in 1809. In the Burmese War (1824-25) he distinguished himself at Rangoon. In the Afghan War of 1838, he was severely wounded at Ghazni. In 1842 he was compelled to fall back upon Jalalabad, where he sustained a three-month siege; he eventually recaptured Kabul.
