Sales, Pietro Pompeo (c. 1729–1797)

Italian composer. He was appointed Kapellmeister to the Prince-Bishop of Augsburg in 1756 and served the Electoral Court in Koblenz in the same capacity from 1770. He also travelled in England and Italy in 1776, appearing as a virtuoso gamba-player.

Works Opera operas, including Le nozze di Amore e di Norizia (1765), L'Antigono (1769), Achille in Sciro, Il rè pastore;

Choral and orchestral oratorios, including Giefte (1762), Giuseppe ricognosciuto, La Betulia liberata; two symphonies, concertos; arias; church music.
