Salii

In ancient Rome, a priesthood connected with the worship of Mars and Quirinus (Romulus). During the festivals of Mars, in March and October, the Salii went in procession and performed a ritual dance.

The priesthood was divided into two collegia of 12 members each, the Salii Palatini and Salii Collini. At the festivals the Salii wore an ancient form of armour and sang hymns as they processed with the ancilia.
