Saltcoats

Residential and holiday town in North Ayrshire unitary authority, Scotland, situated on the Firth of Clyde, 48 km/30 mi southwest of Glasgow; population (2001) 11,300. It merges with the seaport of Ardrossan to the northwest. The town was a major salt producer from the end of the 17th to the beginning of the 19th century.
