rescue archaeology

Branch of archaeology that is concerned with the impact of contemporary construction and other developments on archaeological sites, and the various laws in some countries enacted to mitigate the threat. It involves locating and recording (usually by rapid excavation) archaeological sites in advance of their destruction.
