Salvarsan

First specific antibacterial agent, discovered by German bacteriologist Paul Ehrlich in 1909. Because of its destructive effect on Spirochaeta pallida, it was used in the treatment of syphilis before the development of antibiotics.

POISON Finally, and most alarmingly, Everybody's Family Doctor advises people with warts to drink poison: Internally, arsenic in small doses, Epsom salts, or green iodine of mercury will sometimes produce a cure; and the injection of salvarsan (an arsenic preparation) is successful in some cases.
She would have been about nine years old when the first antibiotic, salvarsan, was developed by the German bio-chemist Paul Erlich, and now we have thousands of anti-biotics.
