Salzedo, Carlos (1885–1961)

French-born harpist and composer. He studied in Paris and moved to New York, where he cofounded the International Composers' Guild. He did much to promote the harp as a concert instrument, and invented many unusual sounds.

Salzedo was much interested in modern music, edited Eolus, and conducted many concerts. He was professor of harp at the Juilliard School in New York and the Curtis Institute at Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He studied piano and harp at the Paris Conservatory and went to New York at Toscanini's invitation to become first harp at the Metropolitan Opera.

The Enchanted Isle for harp and orchestra; a concerto for harp and seven wind instruments; Préambule et Jeux for harp and chamber orchestra; a sonata for harp and piano; many pieces and arrangements for harp.
