Latin American ballroom dance; the music for this. Samba originated in Brazil and became popular in the West in the 1940s. There are several different samba rhythms; the bossa nova is a samba-jazz fusion.

Afro-Brazillian secular music and couple-dance form, spanning the continuum from traditional percussion and vocal-dominated street styles of the Carnival parade to the more popular renditions of the ballroom dance orchestras.
