Sammartini, Giuseppe (c. 1693–c. 1750)

Italian oboist and composer. He travelled to London, England, in the 1720s, where he worked as oboist at the Opera. From 1732 he gave concerts. He became director of the chamber music to Frederick, Prince of Wales, and composed a setting of William Congreve's masque The Judgment of Paris, an Italian oratorio, and various concertos and sonatas. Sammartini was born in Milan, Italy.
