San Bruno

City in north-central California, on San Francisco Bay, 16 km/10 mi south of San Francisco; population (1990) 39,000. A largely residential suburb, it has naval facilities and a federal recordkeeping centre. There are a variety of light industries.

Tanforan Race Track, on the site of a modern shopping centre, was an early (1910s) aviation centre, and San Francisco International Airport lies to the southeast.
