San Carlos de Bariloche

Resort town in the province of Río Negro, western Argentina; population (1996) 78,000. Founded in 1898, and situated on the south shore of Lake Nahuel Huapi, it is the most popular tourist centre for visiting the national park of Nahuel Huapi and skiing on the local peaks. There are skiing facilities on Cerro Catedral.

San Carlos de Bariloche has a thriving chocolate industry.
