San Fernando

Town and major port on the southwest coast of Trinidad, in the West Indies, off the coast of Venezuela, 58 km/36 mi south of Port of Spain; population (1991) 30,115. Lying at the southern end of the Gulf of Paria, it is the administrative and trading centre for the southern half of the island. Nearby is the main industrial development area of Point Lisas and the Pointe-a-Pierre oil refinery.
