San Ignacio Mini

Town in the Misiones province in Argentina, 40 km/25 mi northeast of Posadas; population (1991) 8,000. The town has the ruins of a Jesuit mission, the most complete site among the many missions (reducciones) to the Guaraní Indians that were built here in the 17th and 18th centuries and that give the province its name.

The remains of four imposing squares, a cathedral, and a seminary can be seen here. The site is administered as a national monument by UNESCO. Similar ruins exist at Apostoles, between San Ignacio and Posadas.
