San Marino

City in southwestern California, 14 km/9 mi northeast of central Los Angeles and immediately southeast of Pasadena; population (1990) 13,000. It is a wealthy residential suburb.

Incorporated in 1913, it was founded by Henry E Huntington, nephew of the railway baron Collis Huntington, whose estate includes the renowned Huntington Library, Art Gallery, and Botanical Gardens.
