The island is mountainous, including Pico de la Cruz at 2,365 m/7,759 ft, and well forested. Industries include wine, fruit, honey, and silk. Tourism is important to the island. |
La Palma| City in southwestern California, 27 km/17 mi southeast of central Los Angeles and east of Coyote Creek; population (1990 est) 15,400. Originally called Dairyland, it was established by dairy farmers during the 1960s in an attempt to prevent urban development, but changed its name in 1965 and became primarily residential. |
