San Pablo

City in Laguna province on Luzon Island in the Philippines; population (1990) 183,800. The city is surrounded by extinct volcanoes, and includes seven lakes within its boundaries. San Pablo is a transport and trade centre. Shoes, clothing, and transport equipment are manufactured; copra and dried coconut are processed and exported. The region's volcanoes attract local tourists.

San Pablo

City in north-central California, on San Pablo Bay, adjoining Richmond and 19 km/12 mi northeast of San Francisco; population (1990) 25,200. It is a commercial and residential centre with medical and seafood industries and light manufacturing.

It is one of the Bay area's oldest (1810s) Spanish settlements, and was formerly an agricultural centre. It is the seat of Contra Costa College (1948).
