Sandpoint

City and administrative headquarters of Bonner County, northern Idaho, on Lake Pend Oreille, 64 km/40 mi northeast of Coeur d'Alene; population (1990) 5,200. It is a year-round resort and a rail centre. Industries include timber milling and the shipment of dairy products and livestock. Sandpoint is also a noted artists' community and centre for affluent retired citizens.

To the north is a large ski resort, refurbished in 1993.
