Sanford, Maria (Louise) (1836–1920)

US educator and lecturer. Sanford was one of the first female professors in the USA. She joined Swarthmore College as professor of history and rhetoric in 1869, moving to the University of Minnesota in 1880. Sanford also lectured to non-academic women and was a supporter of female suffrage.
