Santa Catalina Mountains

Santa Catalina Mountains

Small mountain range in southeastern Arizona, northeast of Tucson. Largely within the Coronado National Forest, it reaches 2,791 m/9,157 ft at Mount Lemmon, which is noted for skiing and as the site of a University of Arizona telescope.

The ecological test project BioSphere 2 is located in the northern foothills, in the desert near Oracle (population (1990) 3,000).
