Santa Clara Pueblo

American Indian pueblo in northern New Mexico, on the Rio Grande, 34 km/21 mi northwest of Santa Fe; population (1990) 10,200. The American Indian population is only 1,200; its lands are, in effect, suburbs of Santa Fe and Los Alamos. Santa Clara Pueblo is noted for its black pottery. The Puye Cliff Dwellings are to the south.
