Santee

River in South Carolina, formed by the Congaree, Catawba, and Wateree rivers, which unite in Richland County, south of Columbia; length 866 km/538 mi. The Santee concrete dam (for hydroelectric power, navigation, and flood control) forms Lake Marion. The Cooper River is joined to the Santee River by a navigation canal built 1792–1800, and this connects with the Santee Catawba Waterway. It reaches the Atlantic at Santee Point, north of Charleston.
