Santini, Fortunato (1778–1861)

Italian priest, music scholar, and composer. He studied music with Giuseppe Jannaconi and, after being ordained in 1801, began to make an immense collection of early music, scoring it from parts in various music libraries. He made friends with Felix Mendelssohn and through him introduced many works by Johann Sebastian Bach into Italy, as well as other German sacred music.
