Sarasate (y Navascuéz), Pablo (Martín Melitón) (1844-1908)

Spanish violinist and composer. He had a remarkable career as a virtuoso, at first in France and Spain, later all over Europe and the USA; he first appeared in London in 1861. Max Bruch, Saint-Saëns, Edouard Lalo, and Henryk Wieniawski dedicated concertos to him.

He studied under the violinist Delphin Alard (1815-1888) at the Paris Conservatory.

romances, fantasies, four books of Spanish Dances, and other pieces for violin.
