Sargans

Town in the canton of St Gallen, Switzerland, 40 km/25 mi south of the city of St Gallen; population (1995) 4,800. Sargans stands at the junction of the Zürich–Chur and Zürich–Austria (Arlberg Express) railways. A medieval castle overlooks the town. Iron ore and manganese are mined nearby.
