Sarrail, Maurice Paul Emmanuel (1856–1929)

French general. He was appointed commander of the Army of the Orient, the French element in the Salonika expedition, August 1915 and became commander-in-chief of the Allied forces in Salonika January 1916. He made little impression in this role and was replaced 1917, then placed on the reserve early 1918.
