Sarro (or Sarri), Domenico (1679–1744)

Italian composer. He was a pupil of Francesco Durante at the Conservatorio di Sant' Onofrio in Naples. He became vice-maestro di cappella to the court in 1703. He lost his post in 1707 but returned in 1725, succeeding Mancini as maestro di cappella in 1737.

around 50 operas; opera Didone abbandonata the first setting by any composer of a libretto by Metastasio (1724).
