Sass, Sylvia (1951– )

Hungarian soprano. She studied in Budapest, where she made her debut in 1971. She sang Desdemona with Scottish Opera in 1975, and in 1976 was Giselda in the first production of Verdi's I lombardi at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, London. She sang the leads in La Traviata at Aix in the same year, and in Puccini's Tosca on her New York debut at the Metropolitan Opera House, in 1977. She has been heard in Vienna, Hamburg, and Paris as Donna Anna (Mozart, Don Giovanni), Fiordiligi (Cosìfan tutti) and Bartók's Judith (Duke Bluebeard's Castle).
