Satellite Beach

City in east-central Florida, 23 km/14 mi southeast of Cocoa, on a barrier island between the Atlantic and the Banana River lagoon; population (1990) 9,900. It grew with the space industry in the 1960s, and houses personnel from neighbouring Patrick Air Force Base and the Kennedy Space Center, 29 km/18 mi to the north.
