Saugerties

Town in southeastern New York State, on the west bank of the Hudson River at its confluence with Esopus Creek, at the eastern foot of the Catskill Mountains, 18 km/11 mi north of Kingston; population (1990) 18,500. Cement and clothing are manufactured, and there are flagstone and limestone quarries.

During the 18th and 19th centuries, its village (population (1990) 3,900) was a bustling river port. It still has many colonial and Greek Revival structures.
