Sauk Center

City in central Minnesota, on the Sauk River at the southern tip of Sauk Lake; population (1990) 3,600. It is an agricultural service centre, but is best known as the model for Gopher Prairie in Sinclair Lewis's novel Main Street (1920). Lewis was born here in 1885; his restored boyhood home is a local attraction.
