Sauret, Émile (1852–1920)

French violinist and composer. We was a pupil of Bériot. He began to travel at an early age, first visiting London in 1862. He played much at the French court in the last years of the second Empire, and visited the USA twice (1872–76). He studied composition with Jadassohn at Leipzig, and appeared with Liszt. In 1872 he married Teresa Carreño, but they were divorced before long. In 1891 he succeeded Sainton as violin professor at the Royal Academy of Music, London, and in 1903 he took up a similar post at Chicago.

Works

two concertos, Ballade, Légende; serenade for violin and orchestra; many violin pieces, studies, and arrangements.
