Sāvitri| Opera by Holst (libretto by composer, based on an episode in the Mahabharata). Though it was first produced in London at Wellington Hall in 1916, its first public performance was at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith on 23 June 1921. In the story, death comes to claim the woodman Satyavān, but he is restored when his wife Sāvitri outwits the grim reaper. |
