Sawyer, David (1961– )

English composer. He directed premieres of works by Mauricio Kagel at the 1983 Huddersfield Festival and was piano soloist in his Phonophonie in London in 1987. His own works have been played by the London Sinfonietta and the BBC Symphony Orchestra (at the London Promenade Concerts in 1992) and at the Almeida Festival, London.

He studied at York University and with Kagel in Cologne.

the chamber opera The Panic (1992); Etudes for actors and ensemble (1984); Cat's Eye (1986), Take Off (1987); Byrnan Wood for orchestra (1992); The Memory of Water (1993).

Chamber and choral

Rhetoric (1989) for ensemble; Songs of Love and War for 24 voices, two harpsichords, and percussion (1990); The Melancholy of Departure for piano (1990).
