Saale

River in eastern Germany; length 364 km/226 mi. It rises in the Fichtelgebirge and flows north past Jena and Halle to join the River Elbe 26 km/16 mi southeast of Magdeburg. The Saale is navigable for 160 km/100 mi to Naumburg.
