Sayville

Community in Islip town, southeastern New York, on Long Island's southern shore, on Great South Bay, 80 km/50 mi east of Manhattan; population (1990) 17,000. It is a summer resort; boating and fishing are important activities.

The harvesting of oysters, clams, and scallops were formerly central to the local economy.
