saz

Persian and Turkish term meaning ‘musical instrument’. The term is also applied to a family of long-necked lutes found in Iran, the Caucasus, southeastern Europe and Asia Minor. Sazi (plural) have a pear-shaped resonator carved from a single piece of wood or fitted together from wooden staves. The neck of the saz is straight with a variable number of tied but movable gut frets.
