Scelsi, Giacinto

    0.01 sec.

Scelsi, Giacinto (1905–1988)

Italian composer. Under the influence of a visit to Tibet he developed an early form of minimalism, as in Four pieces, each one on a single note, for small orchestra in 1961. His Aion for orchestra (composed in 1961, first performance in 1985), further evokes virtual stillness.

He studied in Geneva and Vienna and from 1936 was an early exponent of 12-note techniques.

Works

Orchestral and chamber

Pfhat and Konx-Om-Pax for orchestra (1986); 11 piano suites; five string quartets.
