Schöne, Wolfgang (1941- )

German bass-baritone. After study in Hamburg he appeared in concert throughout Europe and in the USA. He began his career in opera in 1970, at the State Operas of Hamburg, Vienna, and Stuttgart, notably as Guglielmo, Wolfram, and Germont. He created Tom in Henze's The English Cat (Schwetzingen, 1983). He sang Mozart's Don Giovanni at Stuttgart (1984), at Salzburg appeared as Alidoro in Wolf-Ferrari's La cenerentola/Cinderella, and the Count in Strauss's Capriccio (1988, 1990). He was admired as Dr Schön in Berg's Lulu at the Paris Châtelet (1992), and as Amfortas (Wagner, Parsifal) at Amsterdam, 1993.
