Schönzeler, Hans-Hubert (1925– )

German-born English conductor and musicologist. After study at the New South Wales Conservatorium, he conducted the 20th-Century Ensemble in London 1951–61. He led the Western Australia Symphony Orchestra at Perth from 1967.

An advocate of Bruckner, Schonzeler has written a book on the composer (1970) and recorded the Requiem. He gave the first performance of the original version of the 8th Symphony (1973, BBC) and performed many concerts with the regional BBC orchestras. He became a UK citizen in 1947.
