Schary, Dore (1905–1980)

US screenwriter, film producer, and director. Originally an actor, Schary turned to screenwriting in 1932, sharing an Academy Award for Boys Town (1938). He was Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer's chief of Production, 1948–56. In subsequent years he worked in both the theatre and films as a writer, director, and producer. He was one of the few to openly resist the blacklisting of the McCarthy era.
