Schaumburg

Town in northeastern Illinois, 48 km/30 mi northwest of Chicago; population (1990) 68,600. It is a residential community that has grown rapidly since the 1960s. There is some light industry, but the mainstay of the local economy is the large, multilevel Woodfield Mall. There are also a number of office buildings.

Busse Lake is immediately to the east, and Schaumburg Airport is at the southern edge of the town.
