Scheibe, Johann Adolph (1708–1776)

German music theorist, critic, and composer. He edited the periodical Der critische Musikus, in which he attacked Johann Sebastian Bach.

After studying law at Leipzig University he settled in Hamburg in 1736, where he edited Der critische Musikus 1737–40. He was Kapellmeister to the Margrave of Brandenburg-Culmbach 1739–44, and conductor of the court opera in Copenhagen 1744–48.
