Schenker, Heinrich

Schenker, Heinrich (1868–1935)

Polish-Austrian theorist. His literary works, including Neue musikalische Theorien und Phantasien and Das Meisterwerk in der Musik, laid down his detailed analytical methods.

He studied with Bruckner at the Vienna Conservatory and on Brahms's recommendation published some early compositions. He taught a number of pupils privately.
