Schikaneder, (Johann Josef) Emanuel (1751–1812)

German actor, singer, librettist, playwright, and theatre manager. He was author or part-author with Ludwig Gieseke of the libretto of Mozart's opera The Magic Flute, which he produced with himself as Papageno.

He settled in Vienna in 1784. He also wrote libretti for Benedict Schack, Franz Xaver Gerl, Franz Süssmayr, Joseph Woelfl, Ignaz Seyfried, Peter Winter, and others.
