Schmidt, Maarten (1929– )

Dutch astronomer. Schmidt left the Leiden Observatory in1959 to work at the Hale Observatory and the California Institute of Technology. In 1970 he joined the staff of the Owens Valley Radio Observatory, and in 1978 he became director of the Hale Observatory. His research included the cosmic distribution of quasars.
