Schmucker, Samuel Simon (1799–1873)

US Protestant religious leader and educator. Schmucker cofounded the American General Synod of Lutheran Churches with his father in 1820. He was the first professor of the Gettysburg Lutheran seminary. Schmucker was an advocate of ‘American Lutheranism’, a liberal branch of Lutheranism.
